Editorial
Well we have got off to a start once again. Lets hope I have the time and the inclination to continue. As much as I love doing the Chit Chat it is time consuming, especially when I have to keep looking fore articles to fill the space. I would really like some of you to give me something to write about.
Summer is around the corner and that means that the creepy crawlies will be out in force.
Winston had rather a frightening experience last summer when a Puff Adder, which was sunning itself on the lawn was luckily knocked out or at least stunned by the lawn mower. When Winston looked down there was this reptile lying between his legs. The question was who was going to move first. Lucky for Winston the snake was stunned and that enabled him to put it into a bag and transport it up the mountain. So watch out don't take chances.
Christmas is nearly upon us and the preparations are taking place. Christmas Cakes baked and meat ordered. I hope.
The Lions Xmas cakes are once again available at a cost of R40. Natalie and Grenville Blacklaws maybe able to supply you with one. You can contact them on 315 2587. We are hoping to have a boot sale outside the Piccaninny in December. You will be able to get rid of your clutter to make room for those Christmas gifts. Start sorting.
Would anyone be interested in Genealogy? Mrs. McKinnon is an avid researcher and would love to help you trace your family tree. Don’t forget Zeta gives the most wonderful full body massage over the weekends and I am sure after the festivities we will all be in need of one.
At this point I must put in a blurb for Durr Estates for whom I work. Selling property is very hard work and it plays havoc with your emotions. So should anyone have a friend or family member looking to buy property here in the most tranquil spot in the Overstrand please contact me on
072 909 7015 or 028 315 1600.
And I will try and show them a home or plot that they would like to call their own.
Enough of that, Don’t Forget the Fisherhaven Ratepayers AGM in December. Your fees for the new year are due now and for only R35 you are getting a committee who is totally committed to getting the best we can for Fisherhaven.
One other thing please register at the Municipal Offices for the
Municipal elections sometime soon. We need a Municipality that delivers.

What did you think of the report in the Cape Times regarding the fire in Rooi Els? Can you believe the Municipal staff treating such a threatening disaster in such an off-handed manner? But then it is just typical of the GREAT I AMS. The Newsletter you would have received in your rates account just shows how egotistical they are. Singing their own praises like there was no tomorrow Maybe there wont be for some if not all of them in the not too distant future. Here's hoping...

From the Fisherhaven Ratepayer's Association (FRA) Chair
Its now time for my last scribblings before our AGM so I will just, hopefully, say enough on the contentious issues to prompt you, The Member to attend and You , the Non Member to join at the door!
The Spatial Development Framework (discussion document) is now open to public scrutiny and I think we have managed to, mostly, protect Fisherhaven from undesirable developments—but we must not be complacent! I suspect that there is still a lot of fighting to be done and I would still like to see open ground opposite China Marais Avenue if we can't have our golf/chip and putt course.
Who says the Neighbourhood Watch is dead? Let me tell you it is alive and very much kicking. Our small band of stalwarts go out in response to calls as well as back-up for the security companies—at all hours. We do still patrol—it’s just that we choose not to make ourselves as conspicuous because we are now dealing with a different type of criminal. Make no mistake we are not giving up—no matter what. So please, we still need your moral and financial support—but most of all we need your eyes and ears. Which brings me to a difficult subject. I have previously tried to say this in a subtle way and that didn’t work so I am afraid I must now say a few things straight out, so here goes. We are not a professional law and order organization—we are just a few concerned citizens TRYING TO MAKE YOUR LIFE SAFER. There seems to be a small number of people who are hell bent on making our life difficult, PLEASE ONLY CALL Us if a crime is being committed, we really do NOT have the time to, for example, police the boats on the lagoon—Phone Nature Conservation or Law Enforcement. However if you see someone throwing a gill net in the lagoon—phone us—do you see the difference?
Anyway there is still lots to do in our village—so do your bit– come along to our AGM—I am trying to get our councilor and our prospective councilor to attend—so you can give them a hard time. At least come and chat and enjoy the refreshments.
One other thing, it has been brought to our notice that many of you are dissatisfied with not being able to ask questions at our public meetings, As you know there is a format to chairing a public meeting and any questions maybe asked at the end of the Agenda alternatively your questions may be written and dropped off at the Haven Café and we will do our best to answer them.
Regards
Mike Masterson.

NO SUPPORT NO VOTE
According to new proposed legislation the “quality” of the councilor will henceforth
determine the quality of the council.
Take a long hard look before you vote.
See Doris Maree at the Ratepayers AGM.
Trivial pursuit on Thursday was great fun and really brought out the creativity of the players. One question was—What does PAS stand for in the motor adverts. Some of the answers were “Price as
Selected.” “Pneumatic Air Supply” We were thinking of making a book of some of the most creative answers and publishing it next year. It would make a dandy present for any wanna be boffin.
Christmas session of Trivial Pursuit and Bingo will be held on the 2nd Thursday of December Wear your Xmas hats and test your knowledge. It is great fun. See you at the Piccaninny at 7pm. BE THERE IT WILL BE FUN!

SOME FISHERHAVEN HISTORY
Fisherhaven has had some really interesting residents. One of whom is Wolfe Loesch. He is one of the swallows. He has lived in Fisherhaven for the last twenty years or so. He has many tales to tell, and I remember when Erick and I first came to Hermanus and were looking for somewhere to live, Wolfe showed us a house with a large garage. Inside the garage was an enormous vat and guess what it was used for. No it wasn’t hooch. It was believe it or not - toothpaste.
If there is anyone else out there who has some tales to tell—lets hear them.

ROSES
“Roses are God’s thoughts of beauty”.
Roses need full sun, richly composted soil and a twice weekly watering. The under planting of catmint is an excellent way of keeping aphids at bay, as well as white fly and scale and even to some extent black spot.
Rose tonic: for the over-stressed and over-tired, this is an excellent tonic to ease pre exam tensions as well.
½ cup rose petals
½ cup fresh peppermint leaves
½ cup fresh rosemary sprigs
6 cloves
Juice of 1 lemon
1 litre boiling water
2 Tablespoons honey.
Pour the boiling water over petals herbs and cloves. Allow to draw for 6 to 7 minutes. Strain. Add lemon juice and honey. Mix well. Drink2 tablespoons at a time either hot or cold.
