The silly season is upon us. I am sure all of you are feeling the change in the magnetic forces upon which Hermanus is built. During this time of the year it is said to do a 180degree turn. Now what that means is beyond my little brain, but I do know that moods change, weather changes and tempers are short. Have you experienced this? As this is the Christmas season and as the saying goes “goodwill to all men” Fisherhaven has its fair share of needy folk. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could bring a little joy to those less fortunate than ourselves. What do you say that at the Ratepayers AGM we all bring a little something to make up Christmas hampers.? The coffee morning ladies did, the year before last, with the proceeds from our recipe book and those ladies who delivered those hampers will tell you it was so appreciated. Think on it please.
I wish to thank the kind lady who has sponsored this months issue. It is much appreciated., now all I am waiting for are some articles from you so that the Chit Chat will make an interesting read for those Haveners who live beyond our border.
The Starlings are really aggressive this year and thanks to Walker Bay Pest Control they have evacuated my roof. They were running races up and down my passage ceiling. Watching them try and pullout the Mesh is like watching that Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds” They breed up to 4 times a year so be prepared.
My little blurb for Durr Estates is due about now so here goes.
Durr Estates have a variety of properties throughout the Overstrand. In Fisherhaven I have vacant land ranging from R275 000to R440 000 and Homes from R670 000 to R1 600 000. Onrus Close, a lock up and go complex has a number of units available from R699 000 inclusive. (no transfer costs) Please give me a call on 072 909 7015 or 028 315 1 600 our office number is 028 316 2499. Anyone wishing to put their property on the market should really consider contact those of us who actually live and love Fisherhaven to do the best for you. Outsiders have no idea of property values here and they concentrate on the areas that bring in the most commission for them. So it makes perfect sense to contact your local agents for the best and honest deal on your property. Don’t forget the Durr Estates lucky draw on Fridays at the Piccaninny.
Have a wonderful Christmas and busy New Year . 2006 here we come.

From the Fisherhaven Ratepayer's Association (FRA) Chair
Dear, oh dear, this is really pushing me—two lots of scribblings within a few weeks of each other. Well there is certainly enough happening around right now!
Fisherhaven continues to grow—building & permanent residents wise, I hope to be able to quantify the exact amount of growth & perhaps make some predictions at our AGM (Plug, plug—don't miss it—you snooze you lose). Still on property, I note we are getting more & more R1mil and house sales & plot prices are steadily climbing out of sight. This has a good knock on effect, after all who is going to pay R400k for a plot only to build a “make-a-plan’, ugly abortion of a “house”? Slowly but surely Fisherhaven is becoming attractive to local professional & business people and the type of house, mostly, being built now I think reflects this trend.
To the people who allowed a large quantity of clay to be dumped by their “builders” on OUR Commonage, I say “come on guys—surely you don’t look at that land opposite you as a general dump". Thankfully a quiet word with each was sufficient for sense to prevail—would the “builder who has blocked the storm water drain with clay so he cold wheel his barrow across—please remove the clay. In winter that will over-flow right into—you guessed it, your clients front yard!
It has come to my attention that in the Overstrand Municipality area, there appears to be just 3 active neighbourhood watch groups—I won’t say where as that will help criminals but I am both pleased and proud that Fisherhaven is one of them It is very sad that after all the good work done by so many volunteers that so many of them have collapsed.– I think mainly due to petty differences & petty personality clashes etc.
Isn't it a shame that ALL concerned could not look at, appreciate and be guided by the bigger picture. Please please please don’t let us EVER venture down that road—stick together, talk out any differences and problems—remember there is strength in numbers
What I am hearing about the land on the mountainside of the R43 is not altogether necessarily good for Fisherhaven—I hope to have more details for our AGM. (Plug, plug, plug)
Have you noticed there is fewer & fewer sightings of buck, porcupine etc lately. Could it be the pack of stray dogs or the “caring owners” who just let their animals out to roam instead of taking them for walkies ON A LEASH with a POOPER_SCOOPER at the ready, are having a fatal effect on our wild life? You be the judge.
SEE YOU AT THE AGM
Regards
Mike Masterson

NO SUPPORT NO VOTE
As a Permanent Resident I am unable to vote at the forthcoming elections. So I went to Caledon Home Affairs to change my status to a Naturalised Citizen. Why bother, I was told it could take up to a year for the process to be completed. My Permanent Resident status is outdated . How long is Permanent? Why was I allowed to vote in 1994? Why do I pay Rates and Taxes if they count for nothing. These questions can't be answered by anyone I spoke to. Yet bus loads of non paying voting material are transported to areas that can’t cope with the influx and we the unrecognized are expected to contribute to their upkeep as through we were citizens. Why? I really feel cheated. I am not saying I can’t become a Citizen but the rigmarole involved is too much. We have never been a burden on the State or the Municipality in fact they have profited from us. My Son was called up and completed his National Service as a Permanent Residence. So why can’t we vote? Maybe we need a change in the constitution.
Will we all fry? The effects of Global warming does not necessarily mean Hot Summers and short winters. There will be an increase in water evaporation therefore increased rainfall. It is estimated that 60% of all sulphur dioxide is released naturally Humans add the other 40%. The fact that strong acids are being formed does necessarily mean those acids cause damage. Rain is slightly acidic because of carbon dioxide and other acids disolving by the water in the clouds. This discussion will continue next month. Look up any info. It makes interesting reading.
According to new proposed legislation the “quality” of the councilor will henceforth
determine the quality of the council.
Take a long hard look before you vote.
See Doris Maree at the Ratepayers AGM.
