EDITORIAL Well we have had some good days some really good days and some bitterly cold days, just what we can expect now that winter is here. Thank goodness for the rain. The Lagoon was starting to smell awful. In bygone days, the powers that were opened the Lagoon at the beginning of winter so that the sea could clean it out and that it would stay open for a while to enable the breeding fish to arrive and spawn in our waters. Those were the days when fishing was good and the water clean. Did you know that there used to be a small tidal pool at the yacht club for the kiddies thanks to the lagoon management? Where has it gone? This misty rainy morning the little buck was back in my garden and believe it or not, we have two Hardy Dars nesting in a tree close by. They were busy aerating our lawn and I am sure we can look forward to some offspring. There are also two hoopoes braving the elements so maybe they will increase their population as well. What does one do on a cold winters day when it is too wet to go out and too cold to sit still. Take up knitting, embroidery, painting, clean out ones cupboards, bake or move to where the sun is shinning as the swallows do. What and miss our winter, the best time of the year no way. I went up the mountain the other day in an old landrover, with four guys and a girl, it was hysterical, two of the guys not from here obviously, were so scared. One was holding on for dear life to the jacket of the girl who was sitting next to him and the other was sweating as though he had just run a marathon. The view from the top, when we eventually got there was something to behold and well worth the bumpy drive. I just hope the overseas visitors remember their adventure in the landie. I am disappointed that no one is forthcoming with some news and/or adverts for the Chit Chat. Feed the yellow box at Jackie’s Café PLEASE. I have just spent a week in Cape Town with my daughter Debbie and I want to tell you it was sooooo cold. I thought Fisherhaven was cold but Cape Town is definitely colder. -------------------------------------------------- CHAIRMANS SCRIBBLES I have mislaid the scribbling from the Chair, but I will let you know what I can remember. Here goes: - Firstly WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PUMP RAW SEWAGE OUT OF OUR TANKS. It was brought to the notice of the Neighbourhood Watch that someone was pumping their tanks on to the empty plot across the road and that the hose was full of holes resulting in raw sewage spilling onto the road. THIS IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE and you will be charged. Next was the number of Estate Agents boards that are making Fisherhaven look like a Christmas tree. Please agents you know this is not allowed only two boards per stand. Just because Fisherhaven seems to be out of range of the Overstrand Municipality, you think the rule does not count here. You are mistaken; you can be assured that we have instructed the law enforcement officers to remove all boards if the ruling is not adhered to. So don’t shoot yourselves in the foot stick to the rule. The good news is that the Christmas Festival is under control, but we are still looking for Man/Women power and for stallholders to book their place. Don’t be late or you may lose out. There is only two months to go really and we envisage a really successful festival with live entertainment, a beer tent, food, lots of things for the kiddies to do, and shopping galore. Mark it in your diary – The Weekend of the 16 and 17th December. On the cards is the rehabilitation of the Wandle Path. Our Councillor and the Municipality have agreed that this would be a big plus for Fisherhaven and it is a great start to attract tourists. The children’s playground has had some additional playthings installed so things are looking up. Our Councillor seems to be listening to us and is prepared to look at Ward 8 as a whole not Hawston and Fisherhaven. Hopefully funds will be fairly divided when the allocations are in place. Medway tarring is on the cards. The meeting with our Councillor seems to have been a good start in cementing our relationship with him. He has promised that he will be back, so let us support him while we can. Sorry Mike that is all I can remember, however the September issue will be available shortly and there will be more to digest. -------------------------------------------------- DID YOU KNOW Almonds block fat absorption. Let’s eat nuts and loose centimetres. Thanks to Pat & Roy who contributed these interesting points to the Chit Chat -------------------------------------------------- THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE -------------------------------------------------- Well Wishes and Condolences John Floyd our Neighbourhood Watch man suffered a heart attack but will soon be back on his feet. Cam Chaffe is also not well and is being looked after by the competent staff at Huis Lettie Theron. -------------------------------------------------- HANDY HINTS A teaspoon of Worcester sauce lowers Blood Pressure. A teaspoon of Ginger in your tea will ease thrombosis. Keep an onion fresher for longer and prevent its odours getting into other foodstuffs, by smearing the cut side with margarine. Ripen Avos more quickly by burying them in a bowl of flour. Cut the tops of carrots before storing to retain their moisture. When boiling foodstuffs, place a toothpick between the lid and the saucepan to prevent the water from boiling over. -------------------------------------------------- DIARY 1st Monday of every month TRIVIAL PURSUIT AND BINGO at the Piccaninny 7:30pm. The Chit Chat scooped the Hermanus Times This little snippet of Information that came to the Chit Chats Ears will hopefully put Fisherhaven on the National Hospitality Map Opening soon Starters Restaurant Watch the Notice Boards for more details….. COMMUNITY EVENTS I, Colin Farrow am very concerned that the Ratepayers of Fisherhaven are divided in their thinking when it comes to matters of budgets, and how and where these funds should be used, if we secure any at all. Unless we unify our efforts we will find that, the Municipality will be of the opinion that we cannot be of one mind as to the future improvements that we would like to see in our village. Let us try to have a 5-year plan of action, and then split it into a yearly wish. A fresh 5-year plan of action to be drawn up before the current plan expires. This plan should be decided in consultation with our three elected Ward Committee Members and then only one wish list submitted for consideration to the Municipality. All previous submissions should be withdrawn and only the new wish list considered. We appear to expend so much energy and effort on the negative issues and none on the positive. Lets all try and bridge the chasm that exist between the two villages of Hawston and Fisherhaven, which is the Ward overseen by the elected Councillor Jan Gelderbloem. He will be in office for the next 5 years and should be invited to our meetings so that he can hear what the Ratepayers of Fisherhaven would like to happen in our village. We will achieve more by working together than pulling in opposite directions. Mike Chairperson of the FRA replies in his scribblings. -------------------------------------------------- GREAT NEWS COUNCILLOR GELDERBLOEM WOULD LIKE TO GREET AND MEET THE PEOPLE OF FISHERHAVEN TO INTRODUCE HIMSELF AND DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF WARD 8 AND FISHERHAVEN IN PARTICULAR.
